Reconciliation Action Plan

Working towards a brighter future for First Nations people.

What reconciliation means for Brighter Super

For more than 60 years, Brighter Super has been right by the side of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members across Queensland, and we proudly support Queensland’s 17 Indigenous Councils.

We recognise the world’s oldest continuous living cultures and are committed to learning from, celebrating and walking alongside these communities on the path to reconciliation.

Brighter Super’s Reconciliation Action Plan strengthens these commitments by focusing on genuine collaboration, cultural respect, and services that reflect the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We are currently at the second of four stages in the Reconciliation Action Plan framework, which is the Innovate stage. Brighter Super’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2024-2026 was published in November 2024.

Through this work, we aim to build a brighter and reconciled Australia and create positive, lasting change for our members and their communities.

The story of our artwork

The artwork, titled Right by your side, was created by Aboriginal artist Kylie Hill in collaboration with our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group.

Kylie is a proud Kalkadoon and Waanyi woman from Mount Isa in Far North Queensland and Quandamooka in the Moreton Bay Area.

This artwork reflects Brighter Super’s journey of change and our commitment to walk alongside members on the path to reconciliation.

The meeting place and songlines symbolise the relationships we build with communities and elders, while symbols of land and sea connect our stories across Country and our place in Queensland.

The design also represents our three foundation funds, our members coming together, and our future members. White songlines mark the pathways already taken, and the dots - each unique - honour the diversity of cultures we serve.

Together, these elements express our promise to support members with empathy, respect and unity as we strengthen relationships and grow through reconciliation.

Acknowledgement of Country

Brighter Super acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we meet and work. We are proud to serve Queensland’s 17 Indigenous Councils, and we strive to provide positive outcomes for our members who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

For our team based in Brisbane, the Traditional Owners of this land are the Jagera and Turrbal peoples.

For our team based in Sydney, the Traditional Owners of this land are the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.

For our team based in Townsville, the Traditional Owners of this land are the Wulgurukaba and Bindal peoples.

We recognise the historical and continuing connection to land and sea of Traditional Owners, not just where our offices are located but also in all the places where we meet and work.

We pay our respect to elders past and present for their knowledge and care of Country.
