How your investment is helping Gold Coast biodiversity

Robina Bees

14 October 2022

Brighter Super members are part-owners of one of Queensland’s most popular shopping destinations, Robina Town Centre. The Centre attracts thousands of people each and every year for shopping and entertainment and now your stake in the Centre is supporting a home for millions of permanent residents.

Outside the breezy Centre atrium, with views across the canals and lakes, sit 36 beehives, part of an initiative started by Bee One Third to increase pollination and biodiversity for a thriving environment for locals and tourists.

Seeing how this prime piece of Gold Coast real estate would provide an ideal habitat for the bees, Head of Listed Equities and ESG, Fiona Mann, said that Brighter Super was keen to support Bee One Third’s initiative as part of its Environmental, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) commitments.

“This initiative might not seem big, but we know it creates a genuine difference to the Gold Coast region and the people who live there,” Ms Mann said.

“Bees are crucial to the longevity of our eco-system and food supply, and with bee numbers declining globally, we took this opportunity to use some of our assets to provide a home for them.

“As Albert Einstein said, if bees disappear, we would have no more than four years to live – Brighter Super wants to ensure a future for all of us.”

The bees have been improving the biodiversity of the Gold Coast since 2016, travelling from Merrimac to Mudgeeraba to pollinate the region, creating a sustainable future for Brighter Super’s around 7,700 Gold Coast members*.
