Douglas Shire Council’s Team Leader of Information Communication Technology Garry Mason has received the prestigious LGIAsuper Above and Beyond Award at the 2021 LGMA Queensland Awards for Excellence.
The LGMA Qld Awards for Excellence recognise the tireless work and outstanding achievements of leaders in Queensland local government.
LGIAsuper Chief Growth Officer Andrea Peters said nominees were selected for representing innovation, drive and professionalism in their field.
“The Above and Beyond Award is given to an individual who has exceeded expectations and performed additional services to the benefit of their local council,” Ms Peters said.
“Garry has been described as a true altruist and has demonstrated proactive initiative to help others in his community.”
Despite going above and beyond by being always available to assist his colleagues, Garry said he was surprised to be nominated.
“I was pretty surprised to even be nominated let alone win,” he said.
“My advice for when the going gets tough and it’s a choice between crying or laughing, pick laughing – it’ll move you forward.”
Ms Peters said that she was honoured to recognise the leadership of Queenslanders in their local communities.
“LGIAsuper has supported local communities for 55 years and know that these kinds of selfless actions exemplify the resourcefulness and dedication of Queensland local government employees,” Ms Peters said.
“On behalf of LGIAsuper, I am proud to recognise the passion of Queenslanders that are supporting their community.”
Garry joins a long list of award recipients who are fashioning the future of Queensland local government. LGIAsuper is proud to stand behind these individuals and recognise their achievements. Thank you to all entrants.
