Information for Brighter Super members

Temporary disruption to services due to completion of Suncorp Super transition

On 1 April 2022, Brighter Super acquired Suncorp Super, and on 1 June 2023, over 130,000 Suncorp Super members will officially become Brighter Super members as part of a Successor Fund Transfer (SFT).

An SFT is a bulk transfer of members and their benefits from one superannuation fund to another.

This is an exciting milestone on Brighter Super’s journey. Our increased size and scale will allow us to deliver even greater benefits to you, while of course still offering the personalised service we have always prided ourselves on. We will also continue to be a not-for-profit industry fund.

The transition will create some unavoidable outages while Suncorp Super members transition to Brighter Super. While we aim to keep this to a minimum, we will have to temporarily suspend account processing between Wednesday 31 May 2023 and Sunday 11 June 2023.

Read the booklet we recently sent to members, which outlines the disruptions and key dates:

The information in the booklet is relevant to all Brighter Super account holders. We recommend you read it carefully to help you understand what is changing, what it may mean for you, and key dates you need to know.

Frequently asked questions

  • For all members

When can I withdraw from my super?

We will not be processing benefit payments between Wednesday 31 May 2023 and Sunday 11 June 2023.

If you are eligible to access your super and need a lump sum withdrawal processed before the suspension period, we must receive the request by 5.00 pm AEST on Thursday 25 May 2023.

Can I make an investment switch during the suspension period?

We will not be processing any investment switch requests after 3:00 pm on Tuesday 30 May 2023.

You can still submit an investment switch form during the suspension period, but the switch request will not be processed until Monday 12 June 2023 onwards.

When investment switch processing re-commences, we will use the unit price relevant to the date your form request was received. The only exception to this are switch requests received on Thursday 1 June 2023, which will be processed with the unit price effective Friday 2 June 2023. Note that any forms received after 3.00 pm are considered as being received on the next business day.

An investment switch form received after 3.00 pm on Tuesday 30 May 2023 will be considered as being received on Wednesday 31 May 2023 and will be processed from Monday 12 June 2023 with the unit price effective Wednesday 31 May 2023.

Is my account still invested throughout this period?

Yes, your account balance will remain invested in your chosen investment option/s during the suspension period.

Can I still log in to Member Online?

There will be some impacts to both Member Online and the Brighter Super mobile app. At 3.00 pm AEST on Tuesday 30 May 2023, most functions in both Member Online and the app will become ‘read only’. This includes not being able to make investment switches, request changes to regular pension payment amounts or frequency, request to roll in money from another super fund or update your personal details. Additionally, please note that your displayed balance may not be up to date during this period.

You will be able to request benefit payments (although these won’t be processed until after Monday 12 June 2023) and make changes to your insurance arrangements.

Member Online and the app will be back to full functionality on Sunday 11 June 2023. The ability to request an investment switch online will be available from Monday 12 June 2023.

Can I still submit form requests?

Yes, members are welcome to submit requests by form. Brighter Super forms are available at brightersuper.com.au/forms.

Processing of forms will resume from Monday 12 June 2023, and we will action any requests received during the suspension period from this date.

Will there be an impact on my fees?

No. There are no changes to your Brighter Super account fees and costs at this time.

How can I find out information on my account during the suspension period?

You can email us at info@brightersuper.com.au or call us on 1800 444 396. We are open on weekdays from 8.00 am to 5.30 pm AEST. Our superannuation specialists and financial advisers are happy to help you.

    What is Brighter Super Optimiser?

From 1 June 2023 you will start to see references to the Brighter Super Optimiser Accumulation account and Brighter Super Optimiser Pension account on our website and in other materials. These are the products our former Suncorp Super members will be invested in.

Can I open a Brighter Super Optimiser account?

No, these are ‘closed’ accounts available only to Suncorp Super members. Only eligible employers can open a new Brighter Super Optimiser Accumulation account after 1 June 2023, and the only members eligible to open Brighter Super Optimiser Pension accounts will be existing Brighter Super Accumulation account members.

Will I be able to access the investment options available in Brighter Super Optimiser?

No, the Brighter Super Optimiser investment options are only open to Brighter Super Optimiser members.
